On their fourteenth studio album, Grammy?-winning folk-rock duo Indigo Girls, deliver a beautifully crafted batch of songs that revel in spirited simplicity. Thanks to its graceful mix of openhearted songwriting and lush, intricate arrangements, Beauty Queen Sister allows the listener to slip into the sort of dreamy serenity that Amy Ray and Emily Saliers strive for throughout the record.
Saliers and Ray began performing together in high school and transferred their honest, urgent performing style onto the stages of countless small clubs. The duo?s career took off with the1989 release of their self-titled Grammy? Award-winning breakthrough recording, featuring their first hit, Closer to Fine.
Both Ray and Saliers have developed solo careers outside of Indigo Girls. Ray has released two solo projects: Didn?t It Feel Kinder (2008), and her latest project, Amy Ray MVP Live (2010). Saliers composed a film score for the short film One Weekend A Month, and regularly performs for charities and benefits. The Indigo Girls?s constant touring, as well as dedication to a number of social and environmental causes, have earned them a fervidly devoted following over the years.
